What is Idaho Women 100?

On August 18, 1920 the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was officially ratified enshrining most women in America with the right to vote. In 2020 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the women's right to vote with a yearlong statewide celebration and commemoration.

The Idaho State Historical Society and Idaho Women in Leadership are leading this initiative by convening organizations throughout the state to honor Idaho's early role in the women's suffrage movement and shape the future of women's leadership in Idaho.

Didn’t Idaho give women the right to vote earlier than 1920?

Idaho can be proud that its courageous past made it the 4th state in our country to give most women in Idaho the right to vote. On November 3, 1896, via Senate Joint Resolution 2, by a vote of nearly two to one in favor (12,126 to 6,282), Idaho changed history, long before the 19th amendment to the US constitution was passed on August 18, 1920. Idaho, and the western states of Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and Washington, led the country in the effort of women’s suffrage.

Why participate in Idaho Women 100?

Women have played a significant role in making Idaho the state it is today. We want to recognize and celebrate the influence of women in Idaho over the past 100 years and their contributions to the political, cultural, economic, academic, social, and civic fields. We will create a framework that will allow our partners and the public to highlight notable women in the movement throughout Idaho’s past and present. By participating in Idaho Women 100 you can help to shape the future of women’s leadership in Idaho across sectors and throughout the state.

What does Idaho Women 100 hope to accomplish?

Our vision is to create a framework that will allow our partners and the public to highlight notable women in the movement throughout Idaho’s past and present. Our goals are to create legacy projects to live on for future generations through art, awards, collections, exhibits, and more. We will conduct research projects, host women’s leadership training programs, get out the vote and other events throughout the state. Through these efforts we will work to shape the unlimited future of women’s leadership in Idaho by advancing shared leadership in politics, business, and education.
